The aim of the Strength and Conditioning (S&C) programme is to maximise the physical preparation of athletes in relation to the specific fitness demands of their sport. We aim to provide world-class S&C support to WSIS athletes through the provision of a performance environment that allows athletes to reach their physical potential.

There are several key elements of our provision:

A  training programme is then designed based on the information gathered from the needs analysis. This will be done in coordination with the coach’s and athlete's aims and objectives.

Specialist S&C coaching support is provided during supervised sessions to maximise gains in sport-specific fitness in the safest and most efficient manner possible. This may also include the use of video feedback to aid in technical development and the use of advanced technology to monitor improvements in strength and power and inform future programme design.

The S&C HQ  for the WSIS is based at the Palace of Art in Glasgow, a state of the art S&C facility that allows an athlete to address all of their physical needs. Supervised sessions are provided by qualified and experienced S&C coaches, who ensure that exercise techniques are safe and provide an optimal stimulus to enhance performance and ensure an appropriate transfer to the athletes sporting discipline.

Supervised S&C sessions are also provided at the National Badminton Academy (Scotstoun), Dumfries and Kilmarnock. Although these locations form the cornerstone of our provision, we are constantly exploring innovative ways to ensure that all WSIS athletes, regardless of their location, receive high quality S&C support.
