Sports Medicine

The WSIS Sports Medicine service operates as part of the wider sportscotland Institute of Sport network and is focused on the delivery of both preventative and reactive programmes for individual athletes and sports. Areas of support include:

• annual medical and physiotherapy profiling
• injury and illness prevention
• treatment and rehabilitation
• physiotherapy
• massage
• podiatry

The medical staff work closely with the athletes, their coaches and other support staff to provide an integrated treatment plan - allowing the institute athletes to maximise this support and, as a result, their potential.

All WSIS athletes also receive support through a sportscotland medical scheme that provides access to specific consultants for opinion, investigation and, when necessary, surgery.

The WSIS operates physiotherapy clinics for institute network supported athletes at the Palace of Art.  This support is enhanced by a network of physiotherapists and other specialist providers throughout the west of Scotland; including the National Stadium Sports Health & Injury Clinic at Hampden.
